Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

I hope this time of year brings you joy and happiness as you visit with people you love. It’s a time for generosity whether it’s through gift exchanges or donating to a worthy organization that you like and want to support. And it may surprise you that the concept of giving has some interesting benefits.

Often, it’s Christmas and the end of a calendar year when more people think about the idea of giving. Generosity, when done from the heart, rather than from a guilt driven “I really should give,” attitude has been shown to benefit both the organization receiving the donation as well as the donor. It’s not about how much one gives, but why you give.

Research has shown that generosity can lower stress, improve emotional well-being, and physical health. Regardless of the amount donated, people who feel the need to help others know that it feels good when we’re helping to provide financial support within the community. And the best part is that it doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Even small acts sincerely offered count, and chances are they’ll mean more than you think, both to the recipient and to you.

For STAND T.A.L.L., as a relatively small nonprofit, we’re frequently overlooked when applying for grants, and we simply can’t afford professional grant writers. Also, the fact is that we’re just not as well-known as the bigger-name charities.  We rely very heavily upon the generosity of the members of the communities we serve in sixteen counties in western North Carolina to meet our goals.

Generosity from the heart is not about the amount donated. Within many organizations just a few dollars can make a difference in achieving a much-needed project goal. There are many ways to give, ranging from donating by personal check, directly from the organization’s website, or online using an application such as PayPal. For some, their generosity is accomplished by working with their financial advisors and donating from long-term investment accounts like IRAs as part of their annual required minimum distribution (RMD) at tax time. For others it’s establishing a planned bequest in their Will which is easily achieved by working with their financial and legal professionals.

My sincere thanks to those who have donated to us. Also, this is an appeal to those who are looking to donate to a reputable and well-respected organization that supports area communities by helping to fund unbudgeted needs of law enforcement. You contribution isn’t just appreciated – it is the lifeblood of STAND T.A.L.L.

With profound gratitude – thank you.

Regards,

Ron Kauffman
