Protecting members of law enforcement by providing needed financial support and equipment are just two of the goals of STAND T.A.L.L. We're proud to have provided every local area department with donations for use with training, protective vests, tactical lights and tourniquets. We currently continue to fund uniformed off-duty police for mentoring and security at the Boys & Girls Club as well as tuition support for students entering law enforcement careers through the Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Blue Ridge Community College.

Recently the K-9 corps of the Sheriff’s Department informed STAND T.A.L.L.’s vice president, Sharon Hanson that four of the recently acquired K-9s were in need of the modern protective vests that their other K-9 dogs had received from us. As an avid animal lover Ms. Hanson took the lead in the effort to raise funds for these new vests featuring the latest technology in lightweight, bullet-proof, slash and puncture-resistant. Like the vests their human partners wear, these vests provide our K-9 cops with an added layer of protection when they are on duty.

Thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors, STAND T.A.L.L. was able to raise the funds needed to acquire the new vests. When asked about receiving them for the two new dogs, Lt. Kevin Holden of the K-9 unit said, “This is incredible. We’re so fortunate to have an organization like STAND T.A.L.L. that not only supports what we in law enforcement do, but is willing to step up and provide us with funding for these vests for our 4-legged partners. I and the department can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done for us.”

Sheriff Lowell Griffin also thanked STAND T.A.L.L. for championing projects and raising funds that benefit the Sheriff’s Office deputies and other local law enforcement agencies, especially in these very challenging times. “Our gratitude goes out to all those who heard about this need and contributed,” said Sheriff Griffin. “The men and women of law enforcement, as well as our K9s often find themselves in dangerous situations. We are blessed to live and work in a community where law enforcement is appreciated and supported.”
The campaign for vests recently concluded, and Board president, Ron Kauffman said, “First, I have to thank the special people in our community who so generously answered our call for donations.  They are the real reason for the success of this campaign. We too are all so very grateful to have such a wonderfully supportive community.”
